Elaine Anderson
SVP, Chief Compliance Officer, TX Health Resources

"NTHCPA was formed to provide an opportunity for local professionals to network and discuss compliance challenges.  It was helpful to know who your contacts were and to learn about the make up of other organizations.  This group was the first recognized regional group of HCCA and a model for some of the local chapters in existence today. I recall one of the most fun meetings we had in the beginning was when we played compliance Jeopardy with member on the panel.

Several of the questions were HIPAA related.  It was a fun way to get at topics and spur conversations in addition to providing an opportunity to facilitate discussion.  It was a very different and creative way to get at emerging issues and I think that's what NTHCPA is about."

David Lancaster
VP, Chief Compliance Officer, Cook Childrens Healthcare

"Our first meeting was in the spring of 1998. I served as the first president although we did not have formal positions at that time. Nelroy Winn, who is now retired, served in the capacity of secretary. She was instrumental in getting this organization off the ground.  NTHCPA started as a small group of professionals which has grown significantly over time.  We were a support group using networking opportunities to learn about what everyone else was doing.  It was an initial grounding in health care compliance for many of us in much the same way it is today for the newer members of our group.

I believe that one of the key reasons this organization has remained viable and grown over the years is because of the dedication and hard work of a number of individuals that have been involved during most of its existence and the enthusiasm of new members who bring new ideas and energy.

Kristin Jenkins
Senior Vice President, JPS Health Network
Administrator, JPS Diagnostic and Surgery Hospital of Arlington

" When we started NTHCPA most of us were to new to compliance and we were trying to discover  together  what the impact of new compliance statutes and regulatory requirements would be on our organizations.  We were very supportive of each other and each person brought different strengths to the table to develop our internal programs more quickly and thoroughly.  We struggled to understand what our ethical obligations were as compliance professionals and explored those issues.

We also supported one another in promoting compliant, patient-centered behavior in our work environments. Compliance is part of the culture of all of our organizations and that awareness has heightened from when we started 10 years ago.  NTHCPA allowed us to have a deeper understanding of other organizations. It's that understanding that makes me feel good about where I work and about the other healthcare providers in our communities."

" Over the years, NTHCPA has provided a sounding board to raise compliance issues, as well as a venue to meet fellow compliance professionals. I have met people through the NTHCPA and those friendships have lasted from the inception of the group until today.  The monthly meetings have always provided a place to ask fellow compliance folks what they are doing.  That meant a lot to me 8 years ago and still does today."
